Christmas in the Garden
Bring a little bit of Christmas magic into your garden with this Christmas in the Garden plant collection.
The beauties that I have chosen in this collection are all plants synonomous with the Festive Season. Except for the Cyclamen, all the plants in this Christmas in the Garden plant collection are perennial and evergreen, meaning that you will be able to enjoy them in your garden for years to come.
This Christmas in the Garden collection will look equally as impressive if planted in pots or the open ground.
Leave 90cm or 36" around the Skimmias and 30cm or 12" between Heathers and Pernettya if planting in the open ground. These plants can all be planted together using the above spacing as a guide, to create a stunning plant combination in your garden or individually dotted about the garden.
Suitable in an semi-shaded position in a well drained soil.
1 x Skimmia 'Rubella' - A male form of Skimmia that produces beautiful, white, scented flowers during early spring. These flowers emerge from buds formed in August/September. The plants retains these extremely attractive buds during the winter and the plant makes a great focal point in a winter pot.
Skimmias like a semi shaded position and wont do well facing south or east. They also like an acid soil so if necessary use an Ericaceous compost when planting.
An important plant for bees and other plant pollinators who feed on the flowers during late winter and early spring when not much else is available to them.
2 x Red Cyclamen and
2 x White Cyclamen - The quintessential flowering plants for the winter garden and Festive Season. These plants are Irish grown to tolerate local condition. A must have plant for winter interest in the garden.
1 x White Berried Pernettya and
1 x Pink Berried Pernettya - beautiful berried female Pernettyas. Low growing evergreen shrubs which like a semi-shaded area and an acidic soil. Grown for their stunning winter berry display.
3 x Twin Girl Heathers. two beautiful shades of winter flowering combine in one pot. The texture of the foliage and flower spikes works beautifully with the lush and ruffled foliage of the Heucheras and the flower colours work fantastically planted in isolation or combined with the evergreen Heucheras.
You will be delighted at the effect of colour and texture achieved with this combination of Heuchera and Heather.
Both the Heathers and the Heucheras are loved by bees and other pollinating insects which will feed on the pollen rich flowers when in bloom.
