Many of our gardens have areas of shade particularly under trees and it can be difficult to get plants to grow in such situations.

Some (not all) spring flowering bulbs thrive in such situations, particularly under deciduous trees which are bare during the winter.

The bubs get all the winter sunlight that they need to bloom during the spring and then they are protected by the leaf canopy, creating the heavy shade that they need during the summer months.

I have put together a collection of my favourite bulbs for shady areas below. So whether you have a woodland garden or just an area of your garden which is in shade these will bring colour and joy during springtime
