The Irish Gardener's NutriChar
More than just plant food.
Give your garden something back.
Give your plants a nourishing boost while investing in the soil they depend on. NutriChar brings together organic plant nutrients and nutrient-enriched biochar to support thriving plants and healthier growing conditions.
Enjoy stronger growth
Organic poultry manure supplies plant nutrients, while biochar can help retain moisture and nutrients in the root zone, supporting healthy establishment and growth.
Bring borders to life
Feed your flowers, shrubs and established borders by scattering NutriChar over the soil surface, then watering it in.
Start something brilliant
Give new plants a great start by adding NutriChar when planting in beds, pots or containers.
Invest in your garden
Soil is the foundation of a thriving garden. Biochar can help improve aspects of soil structure and retain nutrients and moisture, so your gardening efforts benefit more than today's growth.
Practical advice for real gardeners
How to use NutriChar
Simple ways to give your plants a boost, from the first planting hole to established garden borders.
Planting trees and shrubs
Mix a good handful, approximately 50–100g, with the backfill soil when planting. Spread it through the planting area rather than leaving a concentrated layer directly beneath the roots. Plant at the correct depth and water thoroughly.
Top dressing established plants
Scatter approximately 100g per square metre, or about two good handfuls, over the soil or mulch surface. Water afterwards and avoid applying before heavy rain.
Improve compost or planting soil
To enrich compost or planting soil, a suggested mix is around 10 parts compost or soil to 1 part NutriChar by volume. Mix evenly before use.
Containers and small gardens
Mix a modest amount into the growing medium when potting up, or use a light surface dressing around established plants. Avoid excessive application in small containers.
Preparing a new lawn
NutriChar can be mixed into soil before laying turf or sowing seed. The pellet form is less suitable for use on an established lawn because the pellets take time to break down.
When should I apply it?
Winter and spring are useful times for soil preparation and top dressing. Use it when planting throughout the growing season, or as a summer surface dressing where plants need feeding. Avoid frozen, saturated or waterlogged soil, and prevent runoff into drains or waterways.
Developed and made in Ireland
Good for your garden. A clever use of Irish resources.
NutriChar combines biochar made from untreated timber with composted organic poultry manure using an Irish-developed patented process. The result is biochar already enriched with nutrients before it reaches your garden.
