Douglas Road Garden Planting Makeover, Cork
A planting-led garden transformation designed for structure, seasonal interest and long-term performance in an urban Cork garden.
This garden was reworked with a focus on planting, structure and long-term performance.
The aim was to soften the space, introduce seasonal interest and create a garden that feels settled and cohesive throughout the year.
Every plant here was chosen to suit the conditions, not just how it looks, but how it grows, how it behaves, and how it contributes to the garden over time.
This is typical of how I approach garden design. It’s not about filling space. It’s about making the garden work properly.

About This Garden
This project focused on improving the structure and planting within an existing urban garden in Cork.
The space lacked cohesion and year-round interest, so the planting was redesigned to create a more balanced and natural feel.
A mix of grasses, perennials and shrubs was used to soften the layout, extend seasonal interest and ensure the garden performs reliably in Irish conditions.
The result is a garden that feels settled, easier to manage, and far more enjoyable to use.
